Sophia Alley: Global Hero of Hope (Survivor)

CANSA proudly celebrates Sophia Alley from Durban, who has been named a Relay For Life Global Hero of Hope for 2025. A dedicated volunteer for over a decade, Sophia was inspired to give back after completing her cancer treatment 10 years ago. She found her calling with CANSA, serving as Luminaria Chair for Relay For Life in 2023 and 2024.

Sophia’s journey with cancer began in 2012 with a breast cancer diagnosis, and in November 2023, she faced a recurrence. Despite the challenges of surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation, her unbreakable spirit continues to shine. She believes that cancer is just a chapter in her story and refuses to let it define her.

As a Leader Volunteer, Sophia actively raises awareness, she has hosted Cuppa For CANSA and CANSA Shavathon events, and advocates for Relay For Life – a platform that offers hope, support, and honours those impacted by cancer.
