Survivor’s determination shows true CANSA Relay spirit

KLERKSDORP – In its seventh year, the CANSA Relay For Life committee joined the community of Klerksdorp to provide cancer survivors, caregivers and teams, a very special experience.

A torch bearer and a bagpipe player led the 83 cancer survivors for a very emotional Survivors’ Lap. The caregivers were invited to join the survivors for the Caregivers’ Lap, showing the appreciation for the support that the caregivers provide during the many survivors’ cancer journey.

klerksdorpThe Luminaria Ceremony poem ‘The Empty Table’ gave the 75 CANSA Relay For Life teams the opportunity to reflect on the lives lost due to cancer.

The highlight of the event was the pure survival instinct of a 16 year old cancer survivor, who walked the track from the beginning to the end of the CANSA Relay For Life Klerksdorp. At midnight, his legs got tired but he refused to give up. With the help and support of his two friends completed every single lap until the end of the CANSA Relay For Life. We salute your bravery and commitment – This is the true CANSA Relay Spirit.
